Artist Statement
Welcome to my personal web page, my name is Bobbie Dewsbery and I am an artist living mostly between my studio in Lichfield and the West Country. I work mainly in paint and sculpture, with archival photography. Over recent years I have slowly moved from a practice in fragility and the body, to an investigation of nature's elements, forms and colour within the landscape around me on my walks and journeys though the West Country. In 2018 I was fortunate enough to be accepted on the the Porthmeour Programme at the School of Painting in St Ives, Cornwall. This has been a wonderful personal art development programme under the tutelage of Liz Hough and the other dedicated members of the school. In St Ives I have developed a deeper awareness and connection with the changing seasons and how this now connects with my new work and affects it. in the way that I view it and feel it.I enjoy experimenting with colour and the processes. In 2019 I worked on some new modern semi abstract work from the Series A Year in St Ives and I was in 2019 for the first time a part of the Sutton Coldfield Art Trail as Vice Chairwoman, which we have had to run as a digital option in 2020 until this year, hopefully as thigs get back to normal. My current project which includes sketches and paintings, supported with with prose as since the beginining of the Pandemic I have been shielded as a very vulnerable person. This has enabled me to reflect. I spent my early years growing up on the Penkridge Bank Road, Cannock Chase. Nearby the Cannock Chase War Cemetery and the German Military Cemetery. This beautiful place is the inspiration for a reflective body of work that I will include in my exhibition 'A Sense of Place' in 2022.
